Our Story Begins Decades Ago
Opening in 1988 and originally named the Swiss Colony, our restaurant was located inside the front entrance of the Parkwood mall in Wilson North Carolina. Selling sandwiches, meats and cheese from a deli counter, the original owners quickly added more tables and chairs for seating, and “Something Different” was born.
The current owners, Marilyn and Paul bought the restaurant in June, 1989. We remained in the mall for a decade, expanding our catering services as we continued to serve sandwiches, chips and pickles. Occasionally we would open a salad bar, and on Friday and Saturday nights a seafood bar, to better serve the growing demand for our restaurant.
In June 1998, the store moved to Airport Boulevard and opened a lunch-service restaurant and catering business. Quickly outgrowing that space, we moved to our current location in June, 2003.
Boasting a 6600 sq ft. building with a dining room larger than 3600 sq ft. for functions and events, we now offer a Full-service, White-linen dining and banquet facility. A fleet of 10 vehicles serves our catering business throughout the region. We can serve 1 to 10,000 with ease.
Through the years, the traditional food and quality service has stayed the same as it was in 1989. The original wooden Something Different sign from the Parkwood Mall now hangs inside our new restaurant, displaying our heritage and commitment to serve our community and surrounding area with exceptional food and catering services.
